British High Commissioner calls on AG

Accra, Aug. 11, GNA – The United Kingdom has decided to increase its investment in Ghana’s development and to co-operate in the practical aspe= ct of its development, Mr Peter Jones, British High Commissioner in Ghana, sai= d on Thursday. Mr Jones made the statement during a courtesy call on Mr Martin Amidu, Minister of Justice and Attorney General in Accra. He said the call was to formally introduce himself to the Minister and to deepen the cordial relations between their two countries. Mr Jones said the UK had shared a vibrant relationship with Ghana and looked forward to building on those cordial ties.

He said the British Government’s agenda on justice would focus on a system that would allow for easy transfer of convicted persons between the two countries. Mr Jones expressed his appreciation to the minister for the warm reception and expressed the hope that Government would co-operate with his country to fulfill their agenda.

Mr Amidu said the Ministry’s responsibilities included the running o= f an efficient and transparent legal system, ensuring equal access to justice and equal treatment before the law for all citizens. He said the Ministry recognized and appreciated the contribution of th= e British High Commission in the development of Ghana’s legal sector throug= h professional courses organized for its members and the provision of equipment. Mr Amidu commended the High Commission on its efforts and asked for more technical assistance to deal with cyber crime and money laundering which were on the rise. 11 Aug. 11
