Effiduase (ER), Nov. 6, GNA – The British government has provided funds towards facilitating dialogue between pupils of nine basic schools in the New Juaben Municipality and their counterparts in the UK and South Africa.
Under the Partnerships for schools in sub-Saharan Africa and the United Kingdom project, the British Council is assisting to provide books, teaching aids and computer for the participating schools from the developing countries to augment their classroom environment in line with modern trends.
Dubbed Ghana, United Kingdom and South Africa Partnership (GUKSA), a core part of the programme involves the visit of headmasters of the participating schools to the partner schools to discuss issues relating to making teaching more rewarding experience for both teachers and their students.
An Assistant Director of Education at the New Juaben Municipal Directorate of Education, Miss Victoria Obeng, told the GNA in Koforidua that the project had been of tremendous benefit to the nine participating schools in the Municipality.
She said apart from the cultural exchanges, the Ghanaian counterparts were receiving financial support to enable them build their libraries and in the future, computer laboratories. Three of the participating schools from the Effiduase Methodist Cluster of Basic Schools on Monday welcomed heads from their sister schools in South Africa and the UK and treated them to cultural displays. An elated Miss Susan Melitus of the Dovery Down Lower School said the programme had offered her the opportunity to learn about the rich African culture.
