British DFID donates school materials to pupils

Kenyasi (B/A), Aug 7, GNA- Mr Yaw Manu-Yeboah, Asutifi District Director of Education, on Thursday presented school materials worth 4.2 million cedis to 50 needy pupils selected from basic schools in the district.

The materials, donated by United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), included school uniforms, school bags, exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers and erasers. Mr Manu-Yeboah said they were meant to sustain the children in school and also enhance the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) Programme.

He appealed to parents to put premium on their children’s education to enable them to be responsible citizens.

Mr Manu-Yeboah advised school children not to engage in unproductive activities and concentrate on their studies to justify the huge investments made on them.

He commended organizations complementing the efforts of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and pledged the district directorate’s support for any programme designed to improve academic standards in the area.
