British Council to Re-furnish KNUST Library

Kumasi, Dec.18, GNA- The British Council Library will from January 2008 stop lending books to the public but will provide other services, including On-line access facilities to the general Public. The range of reading materials from the British Council Library and others from the London University will be stocked in the country’s universities, among which is the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The reading materials will then be at the disposal of about 25,000 student population on campus rather than the 400 who patronized the materials at the British Council Library located at Adum in Kumasi. Mr. Moses Anibaba, Director of British Council, Ghana disclosed this in Kumasi on Tuesday during a familiarization visit to the University’s Library to acquaint himself with the needs of the Library and sign

a three-year partnership agreement with the University. He said after the partnership agreement, there will be staff training as well as laid down strategies needed by the University Library to enable the students to have access to books related to their various courses.

Mr. Anibaba added that, a resource centre will also be commissioned to give other professionals the chance to do their research. Mrs. Helena Asamoah-Hassan, the University Librarian thanked the Council for its gesture and called on the youth, including the general public to take advantage of the opportunity.
