British Council honours students, teachers

The British Council on Friday held its fifth Cambridge International Examination Attached Centres Awards Night to celebrate teachers and students who have demonstrated excellence in academic work.

The awards were categorised into ultimate star and star performance awards. The ultimate star awards went to Miss Malaika Naa-lamley Aryee-Boi of Soul Clinic International and Master Victor Mawuli from International Community School.

Miss Aryee-Boi was adjudged the best International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGSCE) student of the year, while Master Mawuli was named the best AS/A Level student for 2013.

The ultimate star winners received Samsung galaxy tablet, mobile phone from Tigo, certificate and a plaque.

Star awards went to outstanding students in foreign language, Literature in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Religious Studies and Information Communication Technology.

Outstanding teachers from the over 30 British Council affiliated schools in the event were also honoured with hampers, commemorative citations and certificates.

The best IGSCE School of the year was conferred on Soul Clinic International School, while Ghana International Christian High School was recognised the best A/AS school of the year, with each taking away a certificate and cash.

Mr Moses Anibaba, Director of British Council, said the award was based on principles of acknowledging the contribution of committed and hardworking teachers and students to academic excellence.

He said the Council was committed to providing quality education hinged on solid academic training to broaden the skills and horizon of students to work towards better social and economic transformation.
