Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – Mr Gordon Wetherell, British High Commissioner on Thursday presented 10 computers and two printers worth 187 million cedis to the Council of State to facilitate their work. He said: “To perform their role effectively, the Council need a sound knowledge base and access to information.”
The British High Commissioner said: “The computers were presented to the Council due to the wide range of meetings it holds and issues it considers.”
Mr Wetherell also informed Members of the Council about the launching of “Commission for Africa,” an initiative by Mr Tony Blair British Prime Minister, with the objective of generating new ideas and action for a strong and prosperous Africa.
The launch of Commission for Africa, he said was to help deliver implementation of existing international commitments toward Africa, adding: “It represents a unique opportunity for advocacy on Africa’s behalf”.
He said Ghana with its example of good governance; democracy, stability and economic growth had an important contribution to make and encouraged members of the Council and Ghanaians to contribute ideas that could enhance the programme.
Mr Wetherell said the computers had high technological abilities, saying: “These 10 personal computers are rather better and more up to date than those we have in the High Commission”.
Mr Anthony Kwashie Deku, Acting Chairman of the Council, in receiving the items said the computers had come in handy and remarked “all of us are in class one of computer training school”.
