Breman Asikuma marks Odwira Afahye

Breman Asikuma, (C/R) Oct. 27, GNA – The Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture, Mr Alexander Asum Ahinsah, has joined the chiefs and people Breman Asikuma Traditional Area at a colourful durbar to climax their week-long Odwira Afahye at Breman Asikuma. The festival is celebrated annually to recall the migration of their ancestors from Asante Breman in the Ashanti Region around 1600 to their current settlement. This year the celebration is under the theme: “Uniting Bremanman for Accelerated Development.” A five-year strategic development plan for Breman Asikuma Area was also launched. Mr Ahinsah said that the road from Anyinabrim in the Assin North District linking Breman Asikuma had been awarded for tarring with work having begun. He appealed to the people to contribute their quota towards the development of the area thereby supplementing the government’s efforts at ensuring a better society. The Minister commended the Chiefs and the people for the peaceful manner they celebrated the festival and expressed the hope they would continue in the spirit of unity. Mr Ahinsah, on behalf of President John Evans Atta Mills, presented three cartons of schnapps, three cartons of soft drinks and cash of GHC2,000 to the chiefs. Odeefo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, Omanhen of Breman Asikuma area, in his welcoming address, urged his people to resolve conflicts amicably. Odeefo Amoakwa Buadu, who is also the President of Breman Asikuma Traditional Council, on the behalf of the people, expressed his gratitude to the government for the provision of school uniforms and exercise books to the pupils in the area. He said this would enhance teaching and learning and reduce hardships on parents and guardians. He also commended the government for deciding to continue the School Feeding Programme and said that 11 schools in the area had benefited. He, however, appealed for the program to be extended to cover more schools in the area. Master Stephen Addison, a pupil of Breman Asikuma Catholic Boys Junior School, was adjudged the overall winner of the Nana Amoakwa Buadu Education Quiz competition for Junior High school Students in the district. For his reward, he would visit the United Kingdom during his vacation. Among the dignitaries who attended the celebration were Municipal and District Chief Executives in the central Region, Officials from the Central Regional Coordinating Council and some paramount chiefs from the Central Regional House of chiefs, led by its President. 27 Oct. 10
