Brakwa citizens abroad present books to schools

Brakwa (C/R), March 11, GNA – Brakwa citizens resident in USA have presented books worth over 3.5 million cedis to five basic schools at a ceremony at Brakwa last Thursday.

The beneficiary schools were Methodist, Catholic, Presbyterian, District Assembly and Islamic JSS.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Obeng based in USA and Mr Luke Aikins Achenie, formerly of the Volta River Authority, and representative in Ghana made the presentation.

Each school was presented with copies of 10 English books and 10 Mathematics books with answers for the teachers.

In an address, the delegates stressed on the importance of education, adding that education is the key to sustainable living, progress and national development.

They advised both the parents, teachers and the pupils to establish dependable co-operation to monitor the academic progress and general conduct of the children and make good use of the books.

The headmasters of the various schools were present to receive the books, while Miss Vivian Obeng of Presbyterian JSS School gave the vote of thanks and pledged on behalf of the students to abide by the advice given.

A ten-member Brakwa Education Reform Oversight Committee sponsored by the USA based citizens was appointed with Mr Isaiah K. Yampson, a retired educationist as chairman, Mr Benjamin Abaidoo-Ayin, Catholict JSS headmaster as secretary and Miss Regina Kwakye, Presbyterian JSS as treasurer.
