Two people have died and six others have been injured after a crash involving a truck, a bus and a tricycle at Dr. Marbel Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The collision happened on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, and prompted an emergency response from firefighters at the Suhum Municipal Fire Station.
The vehicles involved were a DAF truck with registration number BF 1722E6, a VW Sprinter bus registered ER 195-24 and a tricycle carrying registration number M-25-AS-8071.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), its preliminary assessment indicates that a brake failure caused the DAF truck to lose control. The truck then crashed into the Sprinter bus, which went on to collide with the tricycle parked nearby.
Two people died in the incident, while six others suffered injuries. Firefighters rescued one victim who had become trapped beneath the DAF truck at the scene.
Those injured were taken to Suhum Government Hospital for medical treatment.
The force of the collision completely destroyed the tricycle. The DAF truck and the VW Sprinter bus also sustained damage, although the damage to both vehicles was described as partial.
The incident at Dr. Marbel Junction has highlighted the dangers posed by vehicle defects on one of the major roads connecting Accra and Kumasi. The GNFS said its findings at this stage remain preliminary, with brake failure identified as the apparent cause of the truck losing control.
Firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station attended the crash and carried out the rescue operation before the injured victims were transported to hospital.
The GNFS has urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are serviced regularly and to drive with caution in an effort to reduce the risk of road crashes.
Its advice follows a collision in which a mechanical problem allegedly set off a chain reaction involving three vehicles, resulting in fatalities, injuries and extensive damage to the tricycle.
