Boyarrested over murder of his step-father

Ho, April 01, GNA-The Katanga Police in the Krachi-East District are investigating the alleged murder of a 70-year old man by his stepson at Pai -Katanga in January this year. Joe Challah, the suspect was said to have slashed Mpayetu Mayertu, 70, who was resting in a reclining chair on his veranda. Mr Joy Afagbedzi, Volta Region Police Public Relations Officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Pai-Katanga Police who were invited to the scene by Patrick Jihimah, Assembly Member of the area on January 15, this year saw Mayertu dead and clad in cloth in a pool of blood on the veranda of his house. He said initial Police investigations indicated that the suspect returned from a nearby village to find Mayertu sleeping in the reclining chair.

Mr. Afagbedzi said the suspect then attacked him with a cutlass, hitting him in the neck from behind. He said the suspected assailant fled when the wife of the deceased who was feeding a two-month old baby was attracted by screams and emerged to shout for help.

Mr Afagbedzi said the suspect was pursued by the youth in the area, arrested and handed over to the Police.
