Boy six drowns in manhole

A six years old boy, on Thursday, lost his life when he fell into an uncovered manhole filled with water at Sebrepor in the Kpone-Katamanso District.

The manhole is said to have been left uncovered by its owners for over two years despite several complains from residents.

Mr Charles Dubin, Assembly Member for the Sebrepor Electoral Area, told the Ghana News Agency that the incident occurred at about 1600 hours.

Mr Dubin said the mother of Ramseyer Takyi, the victim, sent his son to escort a one and a half year old boy to his mother in the neighborhood.

According to him, the one-and-a-half year old child who could not speak was later seen near the manhole pointing at it to any one he could sight.

This attracted a concerned resident who led the boy to a nearby house where Takyi’s mother informed neighbours that he sent the victim to take the boy home.

Residents became alarmed and entered the manhole filled with water, with a ladder, and retrieved Takyi’s lifeless body.

Mr Dubin said the body of the victim has been deposited at the Tema General Hospital whilst a complaint has been lodged at the Golf City Police Station, near Tema
