Boy, 18, jailed 15 years for stealing

An 18-year-old unemployed, Emmanuel Adjei was on Tuesday convicted to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced accordingly.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Boatey told a Takoradi Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Charles Bamfo Nimako that, the complainant, Comfort Asamah Baidoo, a cook and the convict were both residents of Ntankorful, near Takoradi.

DSP Boatey said on July 10, this year, Adjei broke into Comfort’s room, threatened her with a knife and took away her Samsung Galaxy phone.

Efforts by some residents in the area to arrest him proved futile until he later disguised himself and joined some neighbours to console Comfort in her house.

The prosecution said, Comfort immediately recognized Adjei when he came to the house as her attacker, by identifying his wrist watch, which he wore to commit the crime, but Adjei strongly denied the accusation.

However, in a bid to prove his innocence, Adjei led the people around to his house, but unfortunately for him, the complainant again identified his jacket and a knife which he used in the robbery, as well as her stolen phone.

Adjei was handed over to the police and after investigations, arraigned and prosecuted.
