‘Botchwey report never said NDC lacks intellectuals’ – Kofi Adams

The Kwesi Botchwey Committee report never said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was bereft of intellectuals, Kofi Adams, National Organiser of the party, has said.

The 13-member committee tasked to investigate the circumstances that led to the defeat of the NDC in the 2016 general election, as part of its recommendations in a 455-page report, called for steps to be taken to strengthen research and intelligence in the party by involving the larger body of the party’s intellectual capacity which had not been active in the last few years.

Some critics of the party have interpreted that to mean the report said the NDC lacked intellectuals.

But responding to such claims on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Wednesday, 21 June, Mr Adams said the NDC boasts of many intellectuals.

He told show host Moro Awudu: “The committee never said NDC lacks intellectuals. The committee said that we should increase our research base and in doing so we should crowd in our intellectual base. It didn’t say we should go and hunt for [intellectuals]; we have them already.

“If we did not utilise them fully in a coordinated manner, they are only asking us to use them and coordinate them. Look at the number of intellectuals that were even in the immediate past NDC administration. Look at the number of persons that were in there and look at the number of persons out there. Prof Botchwey himself, the Right Honourable Doe Adjaho, just within that small committee look at the people that are in it. Look at the many others, the vice chancellors who served in government. So how would they have said that we lacked intellectuals?”
