The National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the 2016 defeat set up a 13-member committee to diagnose the cause for their humiliating defeat.
The committee, which was formed by the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee (NEC), and approved by its Council of Elders, is being chaired by a Former Minister of Finance and Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Kwesi Botchwey.
The committee was set up to “review and validate the results of the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections and find out the causes of the poor performance of the NDC in both the presidential and the parliamentary election, as well as to deal with other matter reasonably related to the above objectives and to make recommendations to the National Executive Committee about the way forward.”
But an activist of the party, Lord Hamah is asserting that, ‘’the Dr Kwesi Botchwey’s committee is just to white wash the guilt and criminality of the bad leadership of the NDC.
According to him, he does not understand why the committee was set up to investigate the cause of their defeat when it was obvious what caused it.
He said, ‘’I don’t understand why the committee was set. Why was it set up? Don’t we know the cause of our defeat? So why the committee?
He called for reorganization of the party and an overhaul of the leadership of the umbrella family
In his view, the NDC can only come to power if the entire leadership of the NDC is changed adding, the current leadership have failed, and they are stubborn
When asked if he was ready to meet the leadership of the party to address his concerns, he said, there is no correct leadership for the NDC party adding the whole leadership of NDC has collapsed.
The entire leadership of the NDC needs to be wiped out. The December 2016 polls did part of the work in cleaning up the party, the rest should be done at an early Congress,” he said.
President John Mahama was defeated by the New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo in the December 7 elections.
Nana Addo secured the presidency after a third attempt, beating the incumbent, President John Mahama with 53.85 percent of valid votes cast.
Mr. Mahama, who ran on the ticket of the NDC secured 44.40 of valid votes cast.
