A campaign dubbed: “Be informed, Observe, Speak up and Save Lives (BOSS),” was launched at the weekend by National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), to educate passengers on road safety.
The campaign launched in collaboration with Christian Community Microfinance Limited (CCML) to educate passengers on road safety measures was to ensure that passengers could be their own bosses and take absolute control over their lives when travelling.
Deputy Superintendant of Police Alexander Obeng, Director of Monitoring and Research of the Motor, Traffic and Transport Division of Ghana Police Service, urged passengers to speak up when drivers are over speeding, overtaking and drunk driving.
Mrs Naa Odey Asante, General Manager of CCML said her outfit thought it wise to collaborate with NRSC to launch the campaign to coincide with the 35th anniversary celebration of the financial institution as a corporate social responsibility.
Mrs Odey-Asante said passengers have a responsibility in making sure that drivers put up the right attitudes on the road, and this could be done if they speak up and “be their own bosses on the road”.
Divisional Officer II, James Kwarteng, Public Relations Officer of Ghana National Fire Service advised car owners and drivers to have fire extinguishers in their cars, adding that new fire extinguisher stickers would be out in two months to check transport operators who use fake stickers.
Mrs May Obiri Yeboah Executive Director of NRSC outdoored a DVD player, which entails road safety measures was given to the transport operators for it to be shown in their vehicles.
She said the DVD entails was distributed as part of the annual road safety campaign that the NRSC is embarking on.
A sidelight of the programme was a drama to educate passengers and drivers on road safety measures.
