The Bosomtwe District Health Management Team (DHMT) has taken delivery of 40,000 insecticide treated nets for free distribution to people in the area.
Mr Joseph Adomako, the District Director of Health Service, said they were expecting a total of 65,000 and they are a donation from the Global Fund and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
He said the treated nets are part of an intervention to help bring down malaria cases, the common disease the out-patients department of the country’s health facilities.
Mr Adomako told the GNA that 861 volunteers from 63 communities had been trained to assist in the distribution of the nets.
He appealed to the people to ensure that they sleep under the nets, reminding them that these were not meant for room decoration.
He said a recent follow up they did to assess the effective use or otherwise of the treated nets showed that many of the people were using these just to decorate their rooms.
Mr Adomako said the distribution had, however, gone up to 38 per cent from the year 2003 figure of three per cent but only 18 per cent of them sleep in the nets.
