Kuntanase (Ash), Jan. 19, GNA – The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning is withholding the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Assembly’s share of the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) for last year, due to the refusal of loans defaulters under the scheme to repay the money.
Mr Bright Addai Mununkum, District Chief Executive, who announced this said some beneficiaries had since 1998 refused to pay back thereby preventing others from accessing the loans.
Responding to a question on the fund at the “People’s Assembly” at Kuntanase at the weekend he said the fund was a revolving one, which was supposed to service as many people as possible but expressed regret that many of the recipients were reluctant to repay the loans. He warned that the assembly would soon institute legal action against the defaulters saying letters had already been dispatched to them and the assembly was expecting their quick response.
The DCE noted that the NPP government would not abandon any viable project started by the NDC government and said work on a modern mortuary for the Kuntanase Hospital would start soon while the construction of a new Post Office for the town had already started with funding through the District Assemblies Common Fund.
Dr Mathew Antwi, Deputy Minister of Environment and MP for Atwima-Kwanwoma announced that phase one of the Agric-Junction to Mosiaso road had started and would be completed next year, while the phase one of the Agric-junction to Atwima-Boko road was also under construction.
Phase two of the project, he said, would start from Boko to Trabuom, while the third phase would begin from Trabuom to Mosiaso. Nana Owusu Adusei Panin II, chief of Nyamiani-Bramkese, who chaired the function, appealed to the government to help improve upon the road network in the district, especially along Lake Bosomtwe to enable more tourists to visit the other communities dotting the lake to improve upon the revenue generation of the assembly since tourism had become its major source of revenue.
