Book On Culutre And Beliefs Of Kassenas Launched

Chiana(U/R), July 11, – A book on the culture and beliefs of the Kassena people of the Upper East Region, “An itinerary of Ghanaian people, the Kassena and the Christian” has been launched at It deals with the cultural practices of the Kassen a people including marriage and funeral rites, fetish practices and the introduction of Christianity into the area. The book was written by Dr Allison Howell, an Australian from Sydney working with the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) as part of her doctorate programme of the university of Edinburgh in the United Speaking at the launching ceremony, Miss Clothilda Amengo-Etegu, Kassena-Nankana district chief executive commended Dr Howell for documenting vital information on the Kassena people. She said the district assembly would be prepared to organise interested persons to benefit from a seminar or workshop Dr Howell might wish to run to share her ideas. Chiana-Pio Pe Roland Ayagitam, paramount chief of Chiana traditional area, who chaired the function said the book was a challenge to scholars from the area to also compile information about their Dr Howell said the book sells at an equivalent of 100,000 cedis in Germany but would sell at 30,000 cedis in Ghana. She gave out 40 copies free of charge to a number of individuals and organizations including the University of Development Studies.
