Book of condolence opens for Dr. Limann, flags fly at half-mast

A book of condolence opened at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Accra, today in memory of the former President of Ghana, Dr. Hilla Limann. Vice President John Atta Mills, who was among the first people to sign, wrote: “May his soul rest in perfect peace”. Others who signed were Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, chairman of the Council of State, Dr Edward Mahama, and Peoples National Convention (PNC) Presidential candidate in the 1996 general elections. Professor John Nabila, Minister of Presidential Affairs in the Limann government, and Professor George Benneh, Minister of Finance in the same administration. Others were Mr. John Schram, Canadian High Commissioner in Ghana, relatives, friends and sympathizers of Dr Limann. The book will be open for three days. Similar books have been opened in Ghana’s missions abroad. Flags are flying at half-mast in honor of the late President until Saturday, February 28 when he will be buried. The funeral cortege begins its journey to Gwollu in the Upper West Region, the former President’s hometown, tomorrow in a people’s funeral that the former president had wished. The former President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who was in power at the same time as Dr Limann is expected in Accra today to take part in funeral.
