Fomena(Ash), Oct.06, GNA – The Adansi Traditional Council (ATC) has opened a book of condolence at the Bonsra Afriyie Palace at Fomena in the Adansi North District for Nana Ofori Agyeman 11, Omanhene of the Adansi Traditional Area. The late Adansihene died on July 15 this year after a short illness.
Mr E.A. Asante, Senior Registrar of the Council told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Fomena that the book of condolence was to offer an opportunity to the public to express their sympathy to the Adansi State and the bereaved families. He said the late Adansihene served the people and the nation with humility and sincerity and that his death was a big blow to the chieftaincy institution and the traditional area in particular. Mr Asante said Nana Ofori Agyeman had a strong vision for the overall development of the Adansi State since it was his time that the traditional council re-introduced the State’s scholarship scheme for needy students.
The Senior Registrar said the task of organising a fitting funeral was a collective responsibility and urged all companies operating in Adansi to team up with the Council. The late Adansihene who ruled for eight years was enstooled on June 5, 1997 to end a protracted chieftaincy dispute that rocked the Adansi State after the destoolment of Nana Kwantwi Barimah 11. Nana Ofori Agyaman, a past student of Prempeh College, worked as a clerical officer at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department in Accra for four years before he left for the United Kingdom in 1961 for further studies.
On completion of his studies, Nana Agyeman worked for 10 years in the UK before he left for the United States of America to take up an appointment with the Bank of New York (IBM) where he retired in 1993. Following his death, the Council has banned funeral celebrations within the traditional area except burials.
