Bongo appeals for support for Ecotourism Centre

Bongo, (UE) Aug. 3, GNA – The Bongo Traditional Council in the Upper East Region on Wednesday appealed to the Ministry of Tourism to provide tourist facilities for an ecotourism centre at Bongo.

There is an ecotourism site with more than seven square miles (11.6 square kilometres) of different types of rocks, which attracts about 60 tourists monthly.

Speaking to the GNA at Bongo, the Paramount Chief of the Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Alemyarum, explained that the ecotourism had very interesting sights of rocks with distinguished characteristics, some very high and wide in nature.

Some primitive tools used by their forefathers were also found at the sites, he said.

He mentioned the “Azudo and Apusariga” sites as some of the ecotourism sites with large rocks that tourists like visiting, especially during holidays.

Various religious organizations also visit the site to pray, he said, adding it was the intention of the Traditional Council to initiate the construction of some of the facilities such as a road linking the sites.

The ecotourism site would also be designed to depict the culture of the people in the area.

Naba Alemyarum said: “A museum will be constructed to house the Cultural artefacts of various dynasties of the traditional area while indoor games would also be provided at the sites for tourists”.

He, however, stressed the need for the Government to support the Council to provide the needed facilities befitting the sites and said when the facilities were provided it would help generate a lot of revenue for development.
