Bolgatanga NHIS disburses 200 million cedis

Bolgatanga, July 05, GNA – The Bolgatanga Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) disbursed about 200 million cedis in May, the Public Relations Officer of the scheme, Ms Linda Boakye, said in an interview with Ghana News Agency on Wednesday.

She appealed to people in the municipality who had not yet registered with the scheme to do so to enjoy its benefits, saying it was the cheapest way of accessing health care.

Ms Boakye decried the rate at which people were abusing the scheme and called for a stop to be put to it.

She cited instances where people defrauded the scheme under the pretext of being sick and collected drugs for their relatives. Ms Boakye attributed the successful implementation of the Bolgatanga NHIS partly to the support from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).

She mentioned some of the challenges facing the scheme as the lack of means of transport, computers and staff and appealed to NGOs and other stakeholders to assist the scheme. 06 July 06
