Bolgatanga, Oct. 13, GNA – Mr Edward Ayiriba Ayagle, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has asked traders to ply their trade at the renovated Bolgatanga Old Market or lose the ownership of their stores. Out of 600 stores allocated to the traders, 447 remain locked for the past 10 months.
He said government was determined to provide conducive business environment to promote the sharp growth of the local economy to push the “Better Ghana” agenda forward.
Mr Ayagle made the request when he paid a working visit to the market as part of efforts to improve the Assembly’s internally generated fund through improved revenue mobilisation.
Portions of the market, which is over flowing with weeds, have been encroached upon without the knowledge of the Assembly, making it difficult for vehicles to have thoroughfare to the market to offload wares. The MCE asked the traders to come out in their numbers to clean the market. Mr Michael Zong, a trader speaking on behalf of his colleagues said trading outside the market had affected their businesses and the payment of loans they contracted to acquire the shops. He appealed to the MCE to ensure that all traders return to the market= .. Madam Rebecca Azumah a trader in the market said she was compelled to reduce her wares in order to beat the expiring date. For more than two years a number of the traders had refused to occupy the market claiming the facility was too small to contain them. 13 Oct. 11
