STATEMENT THANKING NANA AKUFO-ADDO, 2016 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY, FOR BROKERING PEACE IN UPPER EAST NPP
We, the undersigned, represent the four main youth groups sympathetic towards the cause of the New Patriotic Party in Bolgatanga and working solely to ensure that our leader and Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is elected President of the Republic of Ghana in the December 2016 election.
In recent weeks, following the tragic killing of our dynamic Chairman, the late Adams Mahama, there have been seeming tensions and divisions amongst our ranks, first within the youth because Chairman Adams was one of us, and secondly within the larger Regional Executive body of the party.
However, after the Adua held for our late Chairman, Nana Akufo-Addo set out to ensure unity prevails in the party, and by this, met us individually, as groups, to admonish us to work together to ensure that victory is ours as a party, and thereby ensuring that Ghana works again.
Prior to meeting with us Nana Akufo-Addo met all constituency chairperson, who pledged to continue with the plans they had with Chairman Adams. He also met all the regional executives, including the 5 executives who had gone into hiding. The priority, Akufo-Addo said, was first the security of the five executives and how to get the party together again to function properly to prosecute a successful campaign in memory of Chairman Adams.
In his meeting with us – youth groups from Holland Base, Dazota, Atlantic Base and Zongo Youth Association – he met us with the same message of peace and reconciliation he preached to our regional leaders, and encouraged us to focus on winning the 2016.
We have listened to our Leader, Nana Akufo-Addo, and want to make it unequivocally clear that we are strongly behind all our Regional Executives and will work hard and help them prosecute a successful campaign in honour of our hero, Chairman Adams.
In Chairman Adams’ last statement before his tragic passing, he admonished all elected officers to respect the chain of command and resort to the use of party structures for the resolution of any matters. We urge them to abide by this so the party can grow from strength to strength. We urge all 15 regional officers to dedicate themselves towards ensuring we win the target of 8 seats set by Adams Mahama in the 2016 election and ensure Nana Akufo-Addo becomes President in 2016.
This gesture by Nana Akufo-Addo has doused whatever flames of suspicion that existed amongst us as youth and our regional officers, and we are most grateful to Nana Akufo-Addo for this.
We want to assure the entire NPP fraternity that we will further deepen the process of peace and reconciliation amongst us and continue with the work of winning 2016.
