Bolga Assembly Sign Pact With Minerals Corporation

Bolgatanga, Aug. 21, – The Bolgatanga District Assembly has signed a co-operation agreement with the Precious Minerals Marketing Corporation (PMMC) to recruit local gold buyers to purchase gold. Announcing this at the second ordinary session of the assembly, Dr. Albert Tenga, the District Chief Executive, said the action is aimed at curbing the illegal purchasing of gold by foreigners at small- scale mining sites. He said under the agreement, PMMC would provide 12 million cedis to bonded buyers who would be accountable to its officer in Bolgatanga. The Corporation, he said, would reimburse each gold buyer as soon as the money given is accounted for. Dr. Tenga said the assembly would get a percentage of the profit accruing from the transaction.
