Bole (N/R), Nov 1, GNA – The Bole District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Elizabeth Salamatu Forgor, has appealed to the government for the early release and increase in District Assemblies Common Fund allocation.
She noted that this would enable District Assemblies to embark on more development project to improve the living standards of the people. Addressing the last session of the Assembly at Bole in the Northern Region, Madam Salamatu Forgor, said the problems facing the District include bad roads, which made it impossible for farmers to transport their produce to the market centres.
The other problems were the rising cost of student support due to an increase in enrolment, shortage of workers in some important government departments, the DCE noted and said when they were properly addressed the situation in the District would improve. She stated that in spite of these the District had its fair share of development including school, health, water and sanitation infrastructure, as well as through self-help and commended the Assembly Members for their contribution.
Madam Forgor noted that the capitation grant had swelled enrolment creating a challenge for the Assembly to provide more school infrastructure as well as to help in the training of more teachers. The DCE stated that the Assembly was supporting teacher-trainees and said it would continue with the programme to turnout enough teachers for the District.
Madam Forgor disclosed that, about 100 acres of land had been ploughed for some young people under the Youth in Employment Programme to start maize cultivation and said that currently three modules including the training of pupil teachers, auxiliary health workers and sanitation teams were to take off.
Madam Forgor said the School Feeding Programme had started in the District at the Banda Nkwanta Primary School but complained about the poor patronage of the National Health Insurance Scheme and urged the Assembly members to educate the people about government policies to gain their support.
Earlier, the Presiding Member, Mr James Jaaga, cautioned the Members contesting the scheduled local level election to be mindful of their election promises, which could lead to mistrust of the electorate. He urged them to continue to serve as role models in their various communities to improve the living standard of the people.
