Bodies to ensure peaceful campaign in Asutifi next year

Kenyasi (B/A), Dec 18, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Electoral Commission in Asutifi District have decided to collaborate in civic and public education programmes to help improve relations between political parties in the district.

Heads of organizations and media practitioners in the district have constituted a committee to help strategize a campaign for peaceful electioneering activities in 2004.

The acting district director of NCCE, Mr. Amankwah Boateng, said the meeting was to identify areas of possible collaboration between the three bodies so as to avoid duplication of functions and to ensure cost-effective programmes.

The Asutifi District Director of CHRAJ, Mr. Gawusu Abdul Wadood, said cases of human rights abuse reported had dropped drastically and attributed it to ignorance and lack of access to relevant information by the people.

He described the inter-agency conference as a step in the right direction and expressed the hope that the district assembly would support them to help eliminate petty misunderstandings during electioneering campaigns in the district.
