Boateng elected as Presiding Member for Asutifi South

Mr. Amos Oppong Boateng, a tutor at the St. Joseph College of Education at Bechem in Tano South District of Brong-Ahafo, was on Thursday elected as Presiding Member(PM) for the newly created Asutifi South District Assembly.

Mr. Boateng, a government appointee was the PM for Asutifi District which is now Asutifi North.

He polled 32 votes, representing 36.9 percent, in an election conducted and supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission and all the 33 members of the assembly were present.

Mr. Boateng’s only contender, Abraham Oppong Berko, Assembly Member for Nkasiem electoral area, had earlier withdrawn from the race.

In his acceptance speech, the new PM expressed appreciation to the Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him and appealed to them to be prompt in attending meetings.

Mr. Boateng expressed the optimism that the Assembly Members would share ideas for the benefit of their constituents.**
