Boakye Gyan condems June 4 Celebration

The celebration of ?June’ as an event that marked the uprising of some junior officers and men of the ranks in the Ghana Armed Forces in 1979 against their seniors in government has been described as celebration of pain.

Speaking to the Crusading Guide in an interview, Major (rtd) Djan also known as Osahene and currently chairman of Policy Consulting Company Limited said a celebration of June 4 amounted to a celebration of pain and deliberate attempt at confusing Ghanaians about the concept and essence of that event by some people.

According to him, there is nowhere in the world that the commencement of wars and hostilities are celebrated. But rather the end of such events are marked with commemorations and the lessons learnt thereof.

He cited the end of World War II, which he said was always marked in Britain by the Queen and the Prime Minister laying wreaths at the Cenotaph.

Explaining why the celebration of June 4 was unnecessary and a celebration of pain, Major (rtd) Boakye Djan who was a key member of the military junta that set out to restore constitutionality in 1979, said in their bid to establish justice, there were excesses, and some people wrongly became casualties of the exercise. He said June 4 was ?unavoidable but regrettable’ as he had established at the National Reconciliation Commission.
