Osahene Kojo Boakye Djan, last Tuesday flew into town on a KLM flight from London via Holland.
Sources close to the retired Major, who was the Spokesman and Second-in-Command of the erstwhile Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) in 1979, said he was in town to attend to private and personnel matters.
However, he will take advantage of the registration exercise and get himself registered if possible. Osahene Boakye Djan, we learnt, might also go to the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) to ascertain whether former members of the AFRC would be required to deal with any issues arising out of the recent appearance of Squadron Leader Dagbe, President of the erstwhile People?s Court of the AFRC, at the NRC on the AFRC executions. It would be recalled that the former President of the AFRC People?s Court recently told the NRC that the 3 former Military Heads of State and five other Senior Military Officers were not tried by ?his court? before their execution in June (12th & 16th) 1979.
Osahene Boakye Djan might also request for a transcript of the testimony of retired Captain Kojo Tsikata in order to enable him and other AFRC members react to the former PNDC Security Capo?s assertion that he (Kojo Tsikata) was not in Ghana at the time(s) of the executions took place.
Captain (rtd) Tsikata was one of the persons listed to be probed for their alleged role in AFRC rule by Boakye Djan, Major (rtd) Mensah Poku and Captain (rtd) Baah-Achamfor in 1980 & 1981 during Dr. Limann?s reign as President of the 3rd Republic. That call was vehemently opposed by Mr Rawlings and his June Four Members (JFM) who claimed it was a CIA ? orchestrated action to derail the ?gains of June 4?.
Boakye Djan who was recently accused by former President Rawlings? eccentric and erratic confidante, Riad Hozaifeh, of plotting together with Major (rtd) Sulemana and Colonel Annor Odjidja, former Director of Military Intelligence (MI), to assassinate him (Riad) and Rawlings, is expected to return to his London base by Sunday to finalise arrangements for his permanent relocation to his motherland, Ghana, after almost 24 years in ?political exile?.
