BNI probes rot at YEA as over GH¢20m fraudulent payments uncovered

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) is currently investigating supposedly fraudulent payments at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to beneficiaries in 216 districts, Chief Executive Officer Justine Frimpong has disclosed.

The payments amount to over GH¢20 million, the Acting CEO said on Wednesday while addressing journalists. Mr Frimpong said some 2,716 beneficiaries, who had no official appointment letters, have been paid over GH¢3 million between February and May, 2017.

These were found out following an internal audit carried out at YEA, according to Mr Frimpong. He said the BNI is preparing to prosecute those found culpable in this report.

3FM’s Komla Klutse reported on Midday News that the draft report also cited some directors conniving with some individuals to siphon funds from the Agency. He said video evidence have been obtained to that effect.
