BNI officials to guard BECE papers

The Ghana Education Service has said it will engage the services of the Bureau of National Investigations to protect examination papers for this year’s BECE.

The security officers will, as part of the arrangement, accompany the papers from the WAEC headquarters to the various exams centers.

The move is part of several efforts to curb examination malpractices, which has been a perennial problem for WAEC.

About 461,000 candidates are expected to sit for this year’s BECE at 1,598 centers across the country. The examination will take place between 13th and 17th June.

Addressing the media in Accra Wednesday, the director general of the GES Jacob Kor said the service has also taken measures to close down websites that are purposefully created to spread false rumors during the exams.

“The Council observed that there were many rogue websites on the internet and social media which made distribution of compromised papers fast and worrisome. The Council therefore decided to clamp down on the rogue websites using the service of private undercover investigative operatives and the assistance of WAEC Unit of the Ghana Police service, the key rogue website operators were arrested,” he said.
