Blows at JAK’s House

… Ex-President Saves Nana Bediako From Punishment

A near-fatal fight almost nearly ensued at the premises of the former President, John Agyekum Kufuor’s residence in Accra on the morning of Tuesday May 5, when a vicious left hook from a hurt and wronged security personnel whose gratuitous emolument had been pocketed by his superior, brushed past the nose of troubled ACP Nana Bediako Poku missing it by a whisker.

At the centre of the hullabaloo stood the ex-President who had just returned from a World Bank meeting elsewhere abroad, who had to rely on his old tricks back in his youthful days to save a panting Nana Bediako (then in the red corner), from the angry bash of a red-eyed Kwasi Amoako, the peeved gentleman on the other side in the blue corner.

Mr. Amoako’s anger had been fueled by the allegation that his eight-year gratuity and that of many others numbering some 800, had found its way into Nana Bediako’s pocket while the Castle Security chief under J.A. Kufuor. Moments after extricating himself from the relatively youthful Amoako and panting for dear air, another security group from the ex-Vice President, Aliu Mahama’s end pounced on Nana Bediako requiring the former President to return to his saving-act ways, just to ensure his beleaguered security chief escaped deserving punishment.

A fatigued ex-President Kufuor feeling the rigours of his physical intervention, pleaded with the aggrieved security gentlemen to bury their differences, and endeavour to stay together as a united front.

The story so hot on the coal pot remains the accusation that Nana Bediako, also the chief of Amenase in the Ashanti region and the VVIP and Castle Police commander short-changed some 800 Police cum civilian security personnel of their gratuity for the eight years service.

Altogether the once-feared Nana Bediako was handed some ¢29 billion for disbursement to the group yet he shared some ¢16 billion, leaving out the remainder for reasons only he and the good Lord well know. Ever since then, the angry outbursts have attracted the BNI and the National Security who have, on separate occasions invited him for questioning.

All efforts by THE SUN to get the troubled security chief to respond to speak to the issue have drawn a blank.
