Blood donation exercise organised in Ashaiman

The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with BC Global Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) on Saturday organised a blood donation exercise at Ashaiman.

Fifty pints of blood were donated to augment the stock at the National Blood Bank.

Mr Ibrahim Baidoo, Municipal Chief Executive, said health is one of the key mandates of the Assembly and would ensure that Ghanaians are educated to offer themselves to donate blood to save lives.

Dr William Darko, Municipal Health Director, said the objective of the exercise is to save the lives of pregnant women during delivery.

He said the exercise would be undertaken every three months and the target is to get 300 donors.

Dr Darko said last year 2,600 women delivered at the Ashaiman Polyclinic.

Mr Edward Kpornu, the Founder of the BC Global Foundation, said the NGO which is into health, partnered the Assembly to carry out its social responsibility of providing services to the people.

He expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the programme; Indomie Noodles, Cocoa Processing Company, Nestle, Bank of Africa among others and appealed to other corporate organisations to aid their effort.

Mr John Ahudjie, a Blood Donor Recruitment Officer of the Korle Bu Blood Bank Centre, called on Ghanaians to donate more blood to help save lives.
