Blame Mahama for Stars’ defeat – NPP scribe

Central Regional Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwamena Duncan, has laid blame at the doorstep of President John Dramani Mahama for the shocking defeat suffered by the Black Stars at the hands of the US in opening match of their FIFA World Cup Group G encounter.

Sharing his views on the ongoing tournament, Kwamena Duncan posited that the failures of the Mahama administration have had a telling effect on the fortunes of the senior national football team, thus adversely affecting their performance.

He ascribed the Black Stars’ major defeat in the World Cup to the current challenges crippling the nation, which to him, are as a result of incompetence on the part of the president.

Expressing utter disgust over the silence of President Mahama regarding the remarks which were made by the Deputy Sports Minister, Joseph Yamin, prior to Ghana’s match against the USA, Kwamena Duncan opined that the deputy minister should have been openly rebuked to serve as a deterrent to others.

He observed that instead of a united nation backing the Black Stars, the government appointees’ remarks only served to alienate others.

“You promised the people of this country a ‘Better Ghana’. So, a President should be able to know where we have come from and stamp his feet…There should be public reprimand to prove that you register your displeasure with action in order to galvanize the spirit of the entire nation behind the team…

“Even when you look at the neckline of the jerseys, it’s in NDC colours,” he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”.
