Pro opposition group the Young Patriots has said President John Mahama should be held responsible for the frequent power outages the country is currently experiencing.
President Mahama, the group stressed, did not take relevant steps to arrest the situation when he was the vice president under late Professor John Mills.
In a statement signed by some leading members of the group, including Richard Nyamah and Hopeson Adorye, the group insisted Ghanaians were not being told the truth about the power situation.
“The President over the past 2-3 years as then vice president had series of meetings and negotiations with Union leaders of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) in an attempt to know the true state of affairs of TOR and how to resolve the issue, but failed to put in place pragmatic measures to help address our suffering,” the statement said.
Government ignored several warnings and advice from experts to resolve the crisis, the group said.
Against that backdrop, the group asked government to come clear on owners of companies such as Vihama Oil, Strategic Oil, Eco Petroleum, Fuel Trade and Shelico— companies the group believes, has turned the Tema Oil Refinery into private properties.
The Young Patriots is also demanding that President Mahama should come public on the exact date TOR was going to start production after ceasing operations last year.
