Third National Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) F.F Antoh, has blamed the recent unfortunate incident that occurred at the party’s Headquarters at the doorstep of Paul Afoko, the National Chairman and Kwabena Agyapong, the General Secretary.
He accuses the two of turning deaf ears to suggestions from other National Executives.
There was a near-bloody fight at the Asylum Down Headquarters of the NPP on Monday, when a scuffle between security guards appointed by the old executives and those allegedly appointed by the new executives attracted the attention of the police.
The timely arrival of the police from the Nima Divisional Command prevented what could have been a bloody spectacle; considering that the old guards fiercely resisted an attempt by the new security guards to take over their duties at the party’s National Headquarters.
This heightened the ever rising tension in the NPP, as some members blame the new executives for what transpired.
Kwabena Agyapong has denied the new executives’ involvement in the fracas and has promised to ‘get to the bottom of it’.
But reacting to the scuffle at the NPP Headquarters, the Third Deputy Chairman, F F Antoh stated on Okay Fm’s “Adeakye Abea” that every bickering resulting from the transition from the old executives to the new should be blamed on Mr. Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong, as several exit plans suggested to them by other executives have fallen on deaf ears.
“We have had several executive transitions in the party but the fact is that the poorest transition the party has witnessed is this one…we are a political party and so whatever we do, we should think twice about it to determine if it will make the party attractive to floating voters or not.
In elections, our strength alone cannot make us win power and so we should make sure that we make the party attractive to those who are not politically inclined to like our party; when we act out scenes like what transpired at the party Headquarters, we are driving away people from the party…there should be no problem when you’re relieving someone off his position, and it is done with a human face,” he said.
“Some of us contested the National Executive positions with the intention to make the party win elections but what is going on at the party Headquarters is shameful and I regret to have contested for the position…we have to blame Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong for the transitional problem in the party. They made the changes…some of us suggested proper exit plans for the old executives…the National Chairman and the General Secretary do not listen to advise and suggestions from other executives in the party,” he lamented.
