Blaise Compaore not seeking asylum in Ghana – Sam George

Samuel George Nartey, a member of the governing National Democratic Congress [NDC] communications team has downplayed speculations that Former Burkina Faso President, Blaise Compaore, is in quest of shelter in Ghana.

His comment follows media reports that a heavily armed convoy believed to be carrying Mr. Compaore was travelling towards the southern town of Po, near the border of Ghana.

Speaking on Radio Gold’s current affairs programme Alhaji & Alhaji, Sam George said government is not aware of Burkina Faso’s former President’s resolve to seek shelter in Ghana.

“Government has not received any formal or informal request for asylum, and President Compaore is not within the territorial borders of Ghana. As and when any such request comes, the requisite authorities would take the necessary action,” he clarified.
