Cherie Blair, wife of former British Premier Tony Blair, has suggested that Africa weans herself from the International Arbitration Court.
She says Ghana must establish an African Arbitration Centre to deal with business issues in Africa.
Blair offered the suggestion when she visited Ghana’s Vice President, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur on Wednesday.
She advised that such a centre be led by Africans to address issues such as mining concerns amongst others.
Blair led a three-member delegation to meet the Ghanaian Vice President at the Flagstaff House.
She expressed grave concern about the amount of monies which African government’s pay to aggrieved parties who win their cases at the court. For his part, Vice President Amissah-Arthur said the establishment of an African Arbitration Centre will require a lot of financial investment.
He says the government will partner the private sector to brainstorm on the matter with a great deal of consideration.
