Ghana Black Stars have kicked off preparations in London ahead of the 2025 Unity Cup, a four-nation tournament set to feature some of West Africa’s fiercest football rivalries.
The team began its training camp on Sunday, 25 May, and is expected to hold three intensive training sessions in the English capital as they fine-tune their squad for the opening clash against arch-rivals Nigeria on 28 May.
Speaking to the press, Randy Abbey, chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, confirmed the start of the camp but remained tight-lipped about the full squad list. However, several names have already surfaced, offering a glimpse into the composition of the team.
Among the local-based players spotted in camp are striker Kwame Opoku, defenders Kamardini Mamudu and Razak Simpson, and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. They are joined by Belgium-based midfielders Lawrence Agyekum and Abu Francis, adding some European experience to the youthful side.
With a number of high-profile players unavailable due to a scheduling conflict with FIFA’s international window, Ghana will rely heavily on its local talents and emerging internationals to make a mark in the competition.
The Unity Cup is expected to be more than just abcontest. For Ghana, it serves as a critical test ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, which resumes in September with matches against Mali and Chad.
