The National women’s soccer team, the Black Queens massacred their Guinean counterparts, Sylle Nationale Femine 11-0 in their one-eighth first leg world cup qualifier played at the Accra sports stadium yesterday. The Queens netted seven in the first half and four after the break. In addition to this heavy defeat, the Guineans, who arrived early in the morning for the match, will pay a CAF fine of 2,000 dollars for arriving late, and without the knowledge of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).The Guineans were expected in the country last Wednesday but instead decided to stay in neighboring Togo till this morning without the consent of the GFA in contravention of CAF regulations. The Queens opened the floodgates of the one-sided match in the fourth minute through striker Nana Ama Gyamfua, who finished off a long throw by right full back Olivia Donkor. Inside left Vivian Mensah increased the tally to two in the 17th minute and in the 22nd minute Gyamfua scored her personal second and a third goal for the Queens. Vivian and Gyamfua made it 4-0 and 5-0 in the 24th and 35th minutes respectively while left winger Adjoa Bayo added the sixth before Vivian netted the seventh for the Queens to take an impressive 7-0 half-time lead. The Queens came back to continue their dominance and it was not until the 61st minute that goalkeeper Abiba Memunatu Sullemana, who was virtually on a holiday, handled the ball. Veteran Alberta Sackey came on for three-goal getter Vivian in the 70th minute and announced her presence with the eighth goal for the Queens three minutes later. Inside right Stella Quartey, substitute Alberta and striker Gyamfua scored in turns in the 78th, 80th and 90th minutes to complete the rout.The second leg will be played in Conakry in two weeks. Seven teams will join Nigeria who drew a bye for the second round. The first-two teams will represent the continent in next year’s world cup.
