Ghana’s Black Princesses began their WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup title defence in impressive fashion, claiming a 2-0 victory over host nation Benin on Friday, November 7.
Goals from Linda Owusu Ansah and substitute Sarah Nyarko ensured the reigning champions got off to a flying start in their opening Group A fixture.
The Princesses dominated from the outset, using their pace and creativity down the flanks to threaten Benin’s defence. Their persistence paid off in the 23rd minute when a clever long pass from Diana Amoako found Agnes Yeboah, who unselfishly squared the ball for Linda Owusu Ansah to slot home the opener.
Benin offered little resistance in the first half, and Ghana’s composure in possession kept them firmly in control after the break. The introduction of Sarah Nyarko proved decisive as the Dreams Ladies midfielder doubled Ghana’s lead in the 78th minute with a composed finish to seal the win.
Midfielder Latifa Musa was named Player of the Match for her outstanding contribution, anchoring the midfield and dictating play throughout the encounter.
The result puts Ghana in a strong position ahead of their much-anticipated clash against rivals Nigeria, as they aim to defend their regional crown.
