Bishop urges youth to choose good character above charisma

Right Reverend Winfred H.Y. Ametefe, Bishop of the Tema Diocese of the Methodist Church, has advised members of the Church’s Boys and Girls Brigade to choose “good character” above “charisma”.

“You must affect the world, not the world affecting you”, he admonished.

Right Reverend Ametefe was addressing a parade of the First Awudome Company of the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade at the opening of the 16 annual synod of the Tema Diocese of the Church in Ho on Thursday.

The Synod on the theme: “Mobilising our resources for Mission, the Pentecost factor”, is the first to be held by the Methodist Church in the Volta Region in 100 years.

The visibility of the Methodist Church in the Volta Region had been modest, and the synod was seen as the beginning of an era, to break the ice and attract people into the Church through increased evangelization.

The Diocesan Head office in Tema has donated a brand new double cabin pick-up and motor cycle to the Hohoe Circuit of the Church for pastoral and evangelization work.

The Ho Circuit of the Church had also been twined to the Ashiaman and Tema Manheam Circuit for support.

Right Reverend Ametefe observed that society now tends to admire and encourage the pursuit of charisma above good character.

He said good character supersedes charisma.

He, therefore, advised members of the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade of the Church to order their individual character so well that many youths in and outside the Church would be positively touched by them.
