Bishop Appeals to GMA to call off strike

Koforidua, Oct. 20, GNA – A clergyman has appealed to the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to call off its strike to help protect lives while the members use the negotiating table to address their grievances.

The Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church, Right Reverend Francis Benjamin Quashie, appealed to the GMA and the Fair Wages and Salary Commission to be flexible in their positions, and rather meet to enable them to reach amicable settlement of their differences.

Rt. Rev. Quashie made the appeal when he celebrated mass at the Out Patients Department of the Koforidua Regional Hospital on Tuesday, to mark St. Luke’s Day.

The day, which is observed annually by orthodox Christians in honour of St. Luke, who was a physician and an evangelist, is devoted for prayers for the sick and medical professionals.

As part of the celebration, the Anglican Church prayed for patients and the staff of the hospital and donated a 21-inch colour television set to the medical institution.

Preaching the sermon, the chaplain of the hospital, Rev. Fr. Jacob T. Botchway, asked public servants to be dedicated to their work just as they would work for God.

He said because of the dedication of St. Luke to his profession as a physician in Biblical times, today he is being remembered by Christian throughout the world.
