Birth-related complications in Nsoatre reducing

Nsoatre, Jan. 3, GNA – Mrs. Constant Serwaah Peprah, Senior Nursing Officer in charge of the Nsoatre health clinic, said birth-related complications reported to the facility, reduced following the introduction of free maternal health care by government. She explained that pregnant women who did not attend antenatal clinic because they could not afford to settle hospital bills now rushed to the facility.

Mrs. Peprah made this known when she received a generator and 20 stuffing chairs worth GHC 4500, at Nsoatre in the Sunyani West Constituency.

The donation was made by two brothers, Kwame Martin and Agya Kofi, citizens of the town and currently residing in Canada,. Mrs Peprah mentioned anaemia and bleeding after birth as the major complications that caused the death of some women and said now such cases were being referred to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani on time for treatment.

She said attendance at the antenatal unit had now risen from 250 to 500 a month and advised all pregnant women to take advantage of the government policy and visit the antenatal clinic. Mrs. Eva Aryee, Sunyani West District Public Health Nursing Officer, thanked the donors for their gesture and urged other citizens abroad to assist the health centre.

She also appealed to individuals and organisations to assist the facility to acquire a pick-up vehicle and ambulance to facilitate health care delivery.

Presenting the items on behalf of the donors, Mr. Kusi Krah, a citizen of Nsoatre, said they had promised to assist the hospital again and urged authorities of the hospital to maintain the generator and chairs so that they could last long.
