Birth certificate delays spark frustration over security paper shortage

Story By: Akua Oteng Amponsah

Applicants seeking birth certificates from the Births and Deaths Registry are facing significant delays due to a shortage of the special security paper used in printing the documents.

Those affected say the delays are disrupting important plans, particularly those related to processing travel documents.

Many applicants have been asked to return in about a month for their certificates, prompting an appeal to the government to urgently address the situation.

The Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths, Nicholas Osei Bonsu, acknowledged the administrative challenge but assured the public that the issue has been resolved.

“We have received supplies of the security paper and printing is currently underway. In about two weeks, applicants who requested birth certificates can follow up to collect them,” he said.

The Registry is urging the public to remain patient as they work to clear the backlog and restore normal service delivery.
