Birim South Electoral Commission exceeds registration target

Akyem Oda (E/R), June 2, GNA – The Birim South District branch of the Electoral Commission (EC) has registered 4,883 people during the recent revision of the voter register out of a projected figure of 3,615 people. Mr John Appiah Baffoe, the district Electoral Officer told the Ghana News Agency at Akyem Oda that 4,812 out of the number had their pictures taken.

He gave the breakdown of the registered voters as 2,361 for those who had attained 18 years of age, 1,386 for those in the 19-year-old bracket and 1,136 for people aged 20 years and above. Mr Baffoe said 134 out of 3,549 registered voters in 2004 who were not able to take their pictures had taken them this time round. He said the exercise was successful and commended the agents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their co-operation. He appealed to those whose pictures could not be taken to keep their slips to enable them to take them next year when the register is re-opened.
