Birim North assembly confirms President’s nominee

New Abirem (ER), April 29, GNA – The Birim North District Assembly, has confirmed Mr. Napoleon Amoako Asiamah, the President’s nominee as the District Chief Executive (DCE), for the area. He polled 27 out of the 28 votes cast, with two absentees, representing 96.4 per cent, at an emergency meeting held at New Abirem. There was wild jubilation by friends, National Democratic Congress (NDC), supporters, assembly members and family members of the newly elected DCE, when Mr. Paul Boateng, Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), announced results of the polls. Mr. Asiamah thanked President John Evans Atta Mills and the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work hard for the development of the district. Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Regional Minister, commended the assembly members for burying their differences and confirming the DCE to enable him to implement government policies and programmes to enhance the living conditions of the people. The regional minister said the development of the district was retarded because it did not have a DCE for over one year, and advised Mr. Asiamah to co-operate with the assembly members to move the area forward. Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo urged the assembly to support Newmont, a mining prospecting company, and other stakeholders to exploit minerals and promote agriculture for the development of the district. Ms. Esther Obeng Dapaah, Member of Parliament (MP), for Abirem, expressed worry that the development of the area was stalled because it did not have a DCE for over one year.

He commended the assembly members for confirming the nominee to ensure speedy development of the district.
