Birim Central Municipal Assembly exceeds revenue target

Akim Oda (E/R), Aug. 17, GNA – At the end of July this year, the Birim Central Municipal Assembly collected a total revenue of 190,534.91 Ghana Cedis, as against an estimated revenue of 165,795.58 Ghana Cedis. Mr Frank Kwame Busumtwi, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the amount collected represented 15 per cent increase in the estimated revenue during the period.

Mr Busumtwi who announced this at the assembly’s meeting at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, stated that about 10 per cent of the amount generated went into capital expenditure.

Mr Busumtwi said it was anticipated that the revenue target for the 2008 financial year would exceed 30 per cent if the management, assembly members and those who contributed to the revenue mobilization, adopted innovative approaches towards the assembly’s internally generated funds.

He said to ensure sanity in the electioneering campaigns by political parties, the municipal assembly had formed an election advisory committee comprised the police, the army, Electoral Commission, National Commission on Civic Education, the Ghana News Agency and all political representatives.

The MCE advised Ghanaians to comport themselves and let political, as well as religious tolerance be their guide in the interest of peace during the upcoming general elections.

He mentioned projects that had commenced in the Municipality under the “Town V Project” as the rehabilitation of Okyeame Poku/Mr Mann road at Old Town and the construction of Asene Islamic School, footbridge at Akim Akroso and a market complex at Nkwantanum to help ease congestion at the central market.
