Birim Central Assembly rejects DCE nominee

Akim Oda (E/R), May 8, GNA – Mr Tawiah Boateng, Eastern Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has argued that in the event that a nominee for a Municipal or District Chief Executive position was rejected, government appointees to the assembly must be changed. According to Mr Boateng, the appointees, apart from all other requirements were supposed to support government business therefore if they failed to endorse a nominee for the position, their appointments must be revoked. Mr Boateng was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the nominee for the position of Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, was rejected by the assembly on Thursday. He said the rejection of a nominee indicated that all stakeholders, including the Regional Minster and the Party leadership did not do their homework well. However, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Asiedu Nketia, held a contrary view, saying government appointees to the assemblies were not only there to approve nominees.
